Tribal Enrollment

Becoming a Citizen

Citizenship in the Hassanamisco Nipmuc Tribe is based on lineal descendancy and documented connection to Nipmuc ancestry — not blood quantum.

Who We Are as a Community

The Tribe is a living community of descendants of the historic Hassanamisco Nipmuc people and others with verified Nipmuc heritage. Our citizenship reflects both our historic families and the continued presence of Nipmuc people in Massachusetts today.

How to apply

An application for citizenship can be obtained by contacting the Tribal Council at council@nipmucnation.org. Once submitted, applications are reviewed and held for consideration by the Tribe's citizenship process. Applicants may be asked to provide additional documentation to verify descendancy and cultural connection.

In-person participation or engagement with the community may be requested as part of the review process when appropriate. Applicants who are unable to attend in person due to documented hardship — such as illness or lack of transportation — may submit a written explanation to the Citizenship Department at least two weeks in advance of any scheduled review or meeting related to citizenship consideration.
