Nipmuc Nation is a constitutional democracy.  Our current Constitution, which was ratified by the Citizens in 2001, establishes two branches of Government, the Nipmuc Tribal Council and the Nipmuc Elders Council.

The Constitution of the Nipmuc Nation, like the US Constitution, is a "living" written and ratified document of the people.  The Constitution establishes the framework of our government and the laws that we are governed by.

Our constitution establishes the Tribal Council.  The Nipmuc Nation Tribal Council consists of 10 seats held by Citizens of the Nation in Good Standing that are elected by the people in stagered years for terms of office of 4 years.

Any Nipmuc Nation citizen who has attained the age of 60 is eligible to serve on the Elders Council.  However, the number of seats on the Council is limited to 10.

The Elders Council of the Nipmuc Nation shall cultivate and perpetuate our culture, history and traditions,
and encourage the harmony and unity of all of our people.
